Under the framework of the “Direct Protection of Fan Violence” project, CHC observers monitored the games of the 5th round of the HT first Croatian soccer league, and based on direct insight and collected data recorded the following events.

Before the match, police had forbidden taking a part of a banner to the stadium which was related to the support of Uljanik workers strike who had been protesting for days, due to unpayed but deserved incomes. A banner that appeared on the stands said:”Armada with 3. Maj and Uljanik”, while the banner that had been prevented from being brought to the stadium said:”Thousands of families are starving because of you. I you don’t pay, you’ll look for salvation!”

NOTE: It is obvious that the MUP RH ( Ministry of internal affairs of Croatia ) started implementing the law which forbids insults in public, as well as political messages. It will be remarkable to see if the law will be implemented in the future.

GNK DINAMO – NK LOKOMOTIVA 1:0

The match of the 5. round of the HT first Croatian soccer league between GNK Dinamo and NK Lokmotiva was played on 25.08.2018, at 21:00h, at the Maksimir stadium in Zagreb in front of around 1300 people, from which about 300 were members of Bad Blue Boys (GNK Dinamo fan club).

In 26. minute Bad Blue Boys chanted:”With a stick, a chain and a brass-knuckle in the head, kick, destroy, for Dinamo’s glory”, and in 30′ one flashlight and one flare activated on the northern stand of the stadium.

The rest of the match went on in a more fair atmosphere without any fan incidents.

NK INTER ZAPREŠIĆ – HNK HAJDUK 2:2

The match of the 5. round of the HT first Croatian soccer league between  NK Inter Zaprešić and  HNK Hajduka   was played on 26.08.2018, at 18:30h, at the ŠRC Zaprešić stadium in Zaprešić in front of around 800 people, from which about 200 were members of Torcida (HNK Hajduk fan club).

The match of the 5. round between NK Inter Zaprešić and HNK Hajduk was marked by an incident between Torcida members (HNK Hajduk fan club) and the police. A smaller group of Torcida, which arrived at the stadium a bit later than the rest, was was forbidden by the police to take their banners on the stands of the stadium. Dissatisfied with the decision of the police, they decided not to enter the stadium at all.

After 15. minute, and after the first NK Inter goal, most of the HNK Hajduk fans which were on the stands of the stadium stood up and started walking towards the exit to join the ones who, because of the impossibility of taking their banners with them, decided to stay out of the stadium. Police decided to stop that intention under the suspicion that the members of Torcida could go towards Zagreb city which could lead to a chain of incidents. At that moment a quarrel occurred between members of Torcida and the police, and in one moment, police reportedly threw tear gas to calm things down. After that, a few profanities occurred from Torcida members, but as there was a large number of police present around the stadium, member of Torcida got back to their seats and continued watching the match.

Afterwards, the situation started to calm down so the rest of the match went on in a more fair atmosphere.

NOTE: The banners which police had denied entry to the members of Torcida carried the following messages:

„From the Perla resort Štico chants to Kerum, let’s mess up Hajduk again, us two punks.“ ( The banner mentions Igor Štimac, sports commentator and Croatian football team ex manager, Željko Kerum, the vice-mayor of Split, and Perla resort hotels in the ownership of Željko Kerum )

„Improvement = departure of SB!“ (SB = Supervisory board)

Both of the banners are in reference to the notable dissatisfaction of Torcida members with the administrative structure of HNK Hajduk.
